(Atlanta) Sen. John Wilkinson (R-Toccoa) has been selected by Lt .Gov. Casey Cagle to serve on the Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for all Georgians Study Committee and the Senate Study Committee on the Legislative Process.
“It is an honor to be selected by Lt. Gov. Cagle to serve on these important study committees,” said Sen. Wilkinson. “I look forward to working hard with my fellow study committee members to take a closer look at the needs of our state regarding the effectiveness of our current legislative process , as well as making sure our state’s rural areas have proper access to the most recent technologies.”

Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for All Georgians Study Committee
The Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for All Georgians Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 876 during the 2016 legislative session. As stated in the resolution, the committee shall be comprised of five members of the Senate and five members of the House. The joint study committee will be tasked with examining the conditions, needs, issues and problems of high-speed broadband internet access. Economic development, education and health care are areas commonly impacted by reduced access to broadband communications, and professionals from these areas will be asked to share information about specific barriers and concerns. The joint study committee is responsible for submitting a report of findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, by December 1, 2016.
Senate Study Committee on the Legislative Process
SR 842 created the Senate Study Committee on the Legislative Process to evaluate and determine an efficient, transparent method of reviewing bills, amendments, substitute bills, and conference committee reports to promote the confidence of the citizens of the State of Georgia in the legislative process. The Committee is composed of the President Pro Tempore, the Majority Leader, the Minority Leader, and four other members of the Senate appointed by the President of the Senate, one of whom is a member of the minority party. The chairperson, designated by the President of the Senate, will call all meetings of the committees. The study committee is responsible for submitting a report of findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, by December 1, 2016
