Preliminary Autopsy Report: Clarkesville Mayor Died of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
Clarkesville mayor, Dr. Terry Greene is dead following an apparent domestic shooting at his home Sunday evening. News of his death was delivered to the media early Monday morning by Atlanta Medical Center. Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett says Greene was shot in the head. He was life flighted to Atlanta Medical Center where he died several hours later.
Chief Barrett could not confirm Sunday night whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Greene’s wife, Anne, was in the home being interviewed by authorities hours after the shooting occurred. The couple has four children. Chief Barrett says none of the children were at home at the time of the shooting.
Clarkesville City Manager Barbara Kesler is expected to release a statement later this morning.
Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the shooting call at the Greene’s house on Asbury Street around 7 p.m. Sunday. Neighbors and friends gathered to check on the family and stood by watching from behind crime scene tape as events unfolded. The GBI was called in to handle the investigation.

Greene was a well-respected, local physician who moved to Habersham County in 1992. He became involved in local politics and served four years on the Clarkesville Planning and Zoning Commission before being elected to city council in 1999. He was first elected as mayor in 2005 and was in the middle of his third term.
The investigation into the shooting continues. Funeral arrangements for Mayor Terry Greene have not yet been announced.
