GBI identifies woman found dead in Mt. Airy

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the name of the woman found dead in a house in Mt. Airy. She’s identified as 38-year old Christina Dowdy.

The Mt. Airy woman was found inside a residence on McConnell Place Thursday evening. Habersham County Deputy Coroner Ken Franklin says he pronounced her dead at 8:32 p.m. The cause of her death has not been determined.

Franklin says the initial call from Dispatch started out as a medical call. He says it’s possible Dowdy died from a medical condition. Authorities are treating it as a “suspicious death.”

Officers from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Mt. Airy Police Department were on the scene late Thursday into the early morning hours Friday. They requested the GBI’s help with the investigation.

State investigators arrived shortly after midnight.

“At this time, the GBI investigation is ongoing.” says GBI Director of Public Affairs Nelly Miles. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
