Atlanta man’s body recovered from Lake Lanier

The Hall County Sheriff's Office circulated this image of Terry Daugherty in the BOLO issued hours before his body was found.

An Atlanta man reported missing at Sunrise Cove Marina off Flat Creek Road has been found dead in Lake Lanier following a day-long search.

Terry Daugherty, 57, was last seen by a friend around 9 p.m. on a dock at the marina where he kept his boat.

“When his neighbors awoke this morning, they were unable to find him and called authorities to investigate,” says B.J. Williams, public information officer for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

The sheriff’s office issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for Daugherty after an initial search of the area turned up no evidence of the missing man.

HCSO’s Dive Team, along with personnel from Hall County Fire Rescue and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), then began searching the lake around the dock. Using side scan sonar, DNR found the body alongside the dock in close proximity to where Daugherty’s boat was moored, says Williams.

Hall County Fire Rescue used its underwater drone to recover the victim.

Daugherty’s next of kin have been notified of his death. His body has been transported to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine his cause of death.
