Stranded Boaters Rescued in Banks County

Two duck hunters stranded in a boat on a lake in Banks County can thank their cellphone carrier and local law enforcement for helping to get them back safely to shore.

The pair called 9-1-1 around 8:25 a.m. Friday after finding themselves stuck in their non-motorized boat on Watershed Lake off of Grove Level Road. “They advised us that they were unable to travel back to shore due to the high and heavy winds,” says Banks County Sheriff’s Sgt. Carissa McFadden.

The wintry weather heightened officials’ concern as the stranded boaters faced the high winds, freezing rain and dropping temperatures on open waters.

Jackson County EMS and Rescue brought a boat and personnel to assist Banks County in rescuing the pair. The men were back on shore by 10 a.m. They were checked out by EMS and medically cleared.
