The Savvy Picker travels around the Southeast looking for vintage merchandise to stock her brick-and-mortar and online shops. On her most recent trip to the North Georgia Mountains, she passed through Dahlonega, Georgia, and stopped in at Gateway Antiques. Keep reading to check out her hauls and pick up a few tricks of the trade.

The Savvy Picker was happy to discover that Dahlonega, Georgia, has quite a few antique stores clustered within walking distance of each other. Since this charming town was her last stop, she ran out of time before visiting them all, but she was thankful she made the time to visit Gateway Antiques.

This antique mall has a number of things going for it, including a super-friendly clerk who greets you when you walk in, many different vendors offering a wide variety of merchandise, and large booths with plenty of space. There was even one vendor area where the whole space was filled with glass cases full of small collectibles.

There was also an entire booth full of vintage and antique tools!

In a space this large with such a great assortment, of course, there are many treasures to be found. Some of the things I picked up included these terrific rooster bookends because roosters sell, folks! And I loved this set of little stacking blue and white pedestal nesting bowls. I picked all of these up for $7 and quickly sold them in the shop for around $40.

For just a few dollars each, I also grabbed these small composite antique animal figurines.

Though I didn’t have room for them in my car at this point, I noticed this mall had quite a few bright and cheery original paintings of flowers, priced very reasonably! Nothing beats original art with great colors, so these will be a score for a future lucky customer.

I suggest exploring downtown Dahlonega when you have time to slow down and really look around. It would make for a great day trip or afternoon of treasure hunting if you are local.

I feel sure I missed out on some amazing deals because of my time constraints that day, so returning to Gateway Antiques with more time on my hands and more room in my car is on my to-do list!
