White County sheriff warns of new phone scam targeting employers

CLEVELAND, Ga. — The White County Sheriff’s Office is alerting local businesses to a phone scam now circulating.

According to a recent statement, scammers have been calling businesses asking for specific employees. Once connected, the caller claims the employee has an active warrant for failure to appear in court.

Officials stressed that these calls are not coming from the sheriff’s office. “This is a scam,” the agency said in a public notice.

The sheriff’s office advises anyone who receives a suspicious call not to provide personal information. Instead, hang up immediately and contact the White County Sheriff’s Office directly at 706-865-5177 if you have concerns.
