Week 10 brought much-needed clarity to the region standings!
North Hall 21, Lumpkin County 16
North Hall held a slim 8-3 lead at the end of the first half, as Josue Nieto had a 29-yd FG for the Indians. In the third, the Trojans went ahead with a second TD pass from Smith McGarvey (one to Ty Kemp, one to Luke Jenkins). He added a 43-yd TD run to seal the win, but Lumpkin got a Cal Faulkner TD pass to AJ Scott, and a Nolan Matthews 2-yd TD run.
Banks County 34, Providence Christian 20
The Leopards got their first win in the Todd Winter era with a great 34-20 victory.
#8 Commerce 55, Oglethorpe County 14
After falling behind on the first play of the game, Commerce roared back with a 34-yd Tysean Wiggins TD less than a minute later. Jacari Huff scored a TD on a big run for the lead. He added a 62-yd TD run a few minutes later, and it became 28-7 with another TD – this time a scoop-n-score by Huff. Wiggins (1-yd) and Ty Sorrells (49-yd) made it 42-7 before the half. Terrence Burch added a 14-yd TD in the second half, and the Tigers got one more score late in the 55-14 win.
#2 Hebron Christian 42, #9 Stephens County 0
The Indians got nothing going in a 42-0 shutout at Hebron, falling to now 4-4 on the season.
Dawson County 22, Chestatee 20
The Tigers held off a huge War Eagles comeback attempt late, grabbing a 22-20 win. Gunnar Weaver got it started with an 11-yd TD, though the PAT failed. Cody McBrayer added a 4-yd TD to make it 12-0. Weaver’s TD pass to Preston Bannister, and a 2PC from Weaver to Davis Glass made it 20-0 early in the second. Late in the third, Elijah Odom recorded a safety, which proved the difference in the contest.
#9 GAC 28, White County 23
White County drew first blood with a 25-yd pick six by Jon Scott. GAC would score just before the end of the first, and the Spartans went ahead early in the second. Tripp Nix hit John Phillips for a 24-yd TD with about 2 minutes left in the half, and Hayden Vandegriff kicked in a field goal for the lead as time expired in the first half. The Spartans scored 2 TDs in a row, including one with 5:17 to go in the game. Nix found Noel Lammers for an 8-yd TD to make it a 28-23 game, which was the final.
Union County 35, Coahulla Creek 20
Union County got out to a quick 21-0 lead on an end-around TD by Tyler Parker, followed by a TD run from Conner Schukcnecht. A Darin Patterson pick six advanced the lead before Coahulla Creek got on the board before the break. Kamden Kendrick threw a third quarter TD to Maddox Young, and Schuknecht had another TD run to cap Union’s scoring.
