Volleyball programs eye state playoffs

Volleyball is nearing the final regular season matches. Some area teams have secured a spot in the state playoffs.

DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 15-19

STATE: With a 2-1 mark in area play and area games left against Lumpkin and Cherokee Bluff (both last place in the area), it’s about all but official that the Lady Tigers are in!

HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 17-7

STATE: The 11-0 start was fantastic, but what followed has been a rougher path of 6-7 (still decent play). The Lady Raiders have some work to do to clinch a spot.

JEFFERSON

RECORD: 15-10

STATE: Jefferson is 6-2 (3rd place) in the area, with only two area matches to go. Pretty much a loss in both would still give them a top-4 spot, so the Lady Dragons are in.

LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 15-18

STATE: Hope is not lost. A pretty good season, but 0-3 in region play means a MUST win in the final two area matches to have a shot.

RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 13-14

STATE: The Lady Cats are in and right now at 5-0 in area are atop the standings in 8-AA.

STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 2-21

STATE: Unfortunately the Lady Indians won’t make state at 0-5 in area play. Only one area match remains against the top team in St. Pius, and even with a win they fall outside the top four.

TALLULAH FALLS

RECORD: 25-15

STATE: Tallulah Falls we won’t know for sure with the public/private split, but we’re pretty much guaranteed to see the Lady Indians in state after a fantastic season so far that includes a 2-1 area record.

UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 3-14

STATE: You wouldn’t guess by the overall record, but second-year program Union will be in state after winning three area games to clinch a spot out of 8-AA.

WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 14-8

STATE: The Lady Warriors are 3-0 in area and pretty much solidified their spot in state. Now to make sure they win home court at least for the first round…
