The Lady Warriors broke a 40-year-old dry spell and will head to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1984.
White County took on the Franklin County Lady Lions in the Sweet 16 round of the GHSA State Basketball Playoffs and took home the win, 66–35.
Off to an early lead, the Warriors were able to put nine leading points on the scoreboard before the Lions got their first point. They kept the pressure on and pushed their lead even further by the end of the quarter, 22–6.
The second quarter slowed some, but not enough for the Lions to shrink their deficit, and the teams went into halftime, 36–17, Warriors.
Second half action saw White County pull farther away from the Lions, nearly doubling Franklin County’s score by the final buzzer.
With the win, the Lady Warriors now head to the GHSA Class AAA Elite 8 round of bracket play. (The last time the Warriors attended this level in the bracket, AMC was still producing cars.)
The Warriors now head to Albany to take on the Monroe Golden Tornadoes on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
