A rear-end collision on GA 365 in Alto early Tuesday seriously injured two Toccoa residents. A baby in their vehicle was uninjured, state troopers say.
According to the accident report, Chad David Black, 57, of Gainesville, was driving north in a GMC Yukon when he rear-ended a Tacoma pickup truck at Alto Mud Creek Road. Officials say the Tacoma was improperly stopped in the northbound lanes. Black told state troopers he did not see the stopped pickup until impact.
The crash caused the Tacoma to travel off the right shoulder of the highway, where it struck a guardrail. The truck then began to overturn and struck a tree with its driver’s side. It wound up on its passenger side, facing west off the right shoulder of the highway.
A witness reported the crash to Habersham County E-911 at 6:15 a.m. on May 16.
The wreck injured the driver of the pickup, Austin Nathaniel Collins, 26, and a passenger in his vehicle, Ashley Nicole Collins, 38. Habersham EMS transported them to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.
Black sustained possible minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital, according to the report.
Troopers with Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the crash. They say charges are pending against Austin Collins.
