Traffic stop leads to drug bust in Cornelia

Turning the wrong way turned into big trouble for a Lawrenceville couple.

20-year-old Andrew Weinmann was stopped after a Cornelia Police officer observed him making an illegal lefthand turn into the Zaxby’s parking lot in Cornelia.

When he approached the driver, Officer Jeremy Newsom says he smelled “an overwhelming smell of raw marijuana coming from the car.” During a search of the vehicle, Newsom says he discovered money in a mason jar, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana packaged in Ziploc baggies.

Weinmann’s fiancée, Cheyenne Holland, was driving a different car. She was stopped in a nearby parking lot and questioned by police. She consented to a search of her vehicle and officers found a small mason jar with marijuana in it, according to the incident report.

In addition to the 11 ounces of marijuana seized in the searches, officers also recovered $1353 in cash.

The incident report states Weinmann waived his Miranda rights and admitted to selling marijuana. He’s charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and making an improper left turn. Holland also faces drug charges.

They were arrested and transported to the Habersham County jail.
