Tony Kirk Maxwell

Tony Kirk Maxwell, age 55, of Cornelia, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Born on June 10, 1966, in Springfield, Ohio, he was a son of the late Walter Brown and Shirley McKee Howard. Mr. Maxwell spent most of his life in North Georgia. He loved his children and in-laws and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his father-in-law. He also loved Bruce Lee and Tony Stewart and was one who never met a stranger. Mr. Maxwell had a passion for cooking and was the owner and operator of Big T’s BBQ and Catering. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Denise Young Maxwell of Cornelia; son, Xavier Maxwell of Lawrenceville; daughters, Toni S. Maxwell of Cornelia and Lashawn Thompson of Arizona; daughter and daughter-in-law, Amanda and Shasmon Colbert of Cornelia; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Henry Young of Cornelia; three grandchildren; seven God kids; brothers and sister-in-law: Jonathan “Chuck” Williams of Athens, Christopher Maxwell (Raymond Thomas) of Atlanta, Eric Brown of Greenville, NC, Kevin and Tracey Collins of Stockbridge, and Tiko Brown of Toccoa; special brother and friend, Johnny Gilliam of Cornelia; sisters: Monique Dancer of Lillington, NC, Janice Ferguson of Toccoa, Gia Hicks of Duluth, and Elece Brown of Toccoa; brother-in-laws, James Young and Ronnie Young both of Cornelia; sister-in-law, Michelle Young (Tim Banks) of Cornelia; special sister and friend, Beverly Nunez of Cornelia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; a special family The Doughtys: Susan Wages Heather, Ashley and Robert Doughty; The Tomlins/ Jackson Jimmy and Kim Tomlin and John Jackson all of Dahlonega.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Oliver Dorsey, Sr., Pastor officiating. Mr. Maxwell will lie in state from 1:00 pm until the service hour. Funeral services will be live-streamed from McGahee-Griffin and Stewart’s Facebook page for those not able to attend.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Friday, September 17, 2021, at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home.
