Tallulah Falls JV volleyball wins three, MS takes third in tournament

TFS JV RECAP

The Tallulah Falls JV volleyball team traveled to Gainesville for a Saturday event in which the Lady Indians played in five matches. The girls opened with a pair of wins and closed the day with another win.

The girls took a 2-0 win over Winder-Barrow to open play and followed it up with a thrilling 2-1 win over Flowery Branch. After a break, the girls dropped a 2-0 match to Dawson County and another 2-0 loss to Jackson County. Finally, the Lady Indians bested Lumpkin County 2-0 to end 3-2 on the day.

“Elsa Sanchez led the team in serving and kills, with 22 points scored on her serves and 11 kills,” said coach Danielle Smith. “Chesney Tanksley also had a strong day serving.”

The Lady Indians are now 5-2 on the season. With the two wins to open the day, the girls started the season with a 4-match win streak. TFS plays again Monday at Murphy (NC).

MS RECAP

The TFS middle school volleyball team competed in the West Oak Royal Rumble on Saturday, finishing third among 12 teams.

The Lady Indians advanced in the tournament play after winning two of three pool games. The first came against McCants and featured a 2-0 win by scores of 25-15 and 25-21. Against Belton, TFS won 25-9 and 25-6. However, the Lady Indians fell to the overall winners of the tournament, West Oak, 16-25 and 20-25.

Following the pool games, TFS played in the gold bracket against Valhalla. After winning the first set 25-16, the Lady Indians fell 13-25 to force a decisive third set. Valhalla won 15-13 in a hard-fought match.

“I’m extremely proud of the way the girls competed today,” says coach Hannah Satterfield. “Despite not having our entire roster, the girls adjusted and fought through changes. They really held their own and gave it their all. I am excited to see what the rest of this season holds.”

TFS is now 4-2 on the season and returns to action Tuesday at home against White Creek Christian.
