Heaven gained a faithful and loving soul when Stella Smith Cleveland, age 90, passed on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Born at The Charm House and raised in Mud Creek, Stella built a life defined by deep devotion, quiet strength, and an unwavering love for her family. She deeply loved those around her and made certain that everyone she welcomed into her life knew they were cherished. Her home was always open—whether for a warm meal, a listening ear, or simply a place to belong.
Stella is survived by her children: Martha Ann Williams Galloway, James Herrin, Watson Herrin, and Shayna Arrowood; along with 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and niece, Edna Norton Lawton. Her family was her pride, and her legacy will continue through each of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Martha Smith; her husband, Grover Cleveland; daughters, Linda Kay Herrin and Shelby Jean Herrin; son, Clinton Herrin; and granddaughter, Amy Baugh.
Some of the greatest memories of Stella’s life were found around her table—Sunday meals, holiday gatherings, and countless moments filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of love that lasts a lifetime. Those moments, shared in her home, will be carried in our hearts forever.
A celebration of Stella’s life will honor the remarkable woman she was and the love she sowed so generously.
The service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2025, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire with Elder David Bryson officiating. Interment will follow the service in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
