Father Geordan Geddings, 26, has joined St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church in Alto as Vicar, according to Senior Warden Michael Shirley. Fr. Geddings is a native of South Carolina and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, S.C.
Fr.. Geddings, who is single, was trained at the Anglican Cathedral of the Epiphany in Columbia where he was ordained a Deacon in November 2015. He served as deacon at St. Bede’s Anglican Church in Birmingham where he was ordained to the priesthood last year.
“I already love this community and hope to be here for the next 50 years,” Fr. Geddings said.
Fr. Geddings joined the Anglican Church in college where he was a member of the C. S. Lewis Student Center. “I’m an avid fan of C. S. Lewis and have read most of his works,” he said. C.S. Lewis was a prolific Irish writer and scholar best known for his ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ fantasy series and his pro-Christian texts.
St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church is a mission parish of the Anglican Province of America which recently signed a concordat of full communion with three other Anglican bodies, the Diocese of the Holy Cross, the Anglican Catholic Church and the Anglican Church of America.
“The Anglican church is a conservative descendant of the historic Church of England,” Fr.. Geddings said, “and one of the oldest protestant churches in the United States.”
St. Thomas is located at 1636 Mud Creek Road in the Pleasant Grove Community. “Our church celebrates Holy Communion Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and has a weekly Bible Study at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, Fr. Geddings said.
Senior Warden Shirley said, “We are blessed to have Fr. Geddings with us at St. Thomas. He brings with him a wonderful theological and liturgical foundation, along with a youthful and dynamic perspective that any church group needs as it focuses on spiritual growth, service to the community, and increasing its membership.”
