Softball Roundup: Regular Season coming to a close

It’s hard to believe, but the end of the softball regular season draws near for local high schools.

Check out where everyone stands to date (listed alphabetically):

Banks County

17-5 (5-0 Region 8-AA)

The Lady Leopards are ranked #3 in the state in 2A softball. Banks County has won three straight games, and sit atop the Region 8-AA standings. This playoff-bound team should be positioned to make a deep run in the state playoffs.

Commerce

15-3 (8-1 Region 8-A)

Commerce just saw a 15-game win streak get snapped in a wild, 20-17 loss to George Walton Academy. The #5-ranked Lady Tigers opened the season 0-2 before the incredible streak. The girls are first in the Region 8-A standings and are a virtual lock for the Class 1A Public State Playoffs.

Dawson County

9-9 (5-5 Region 7-AAA)

The Lady Tigers are .500 overall and in Region 7-AAA play, which has them positioned in a tie for third place in the standings. This region has four teams with a 5-5 record, so things are about to get very intense as only the top four go to the state playoffs. Dawson is coming off a big 3-1 win over North Hall.

Habersham Central

8-9 (2-6 Region 8-AAAAAA)

Paige Cook and the Lady Raiders are just outside the top four, positioned in 5th place currently in 8-AAAAAA. The Lady Raiders just had a monumental 8-7, 9-inning win over Gainesville, and are one game behind Lanier for that last spot.

Lumpkin County

9-13 (6-5 Region 7-AAA)

The Lady Indians have dropped five straight, but somehow still have a good enough record to be in second place in 7-AAA. As noted for Dawson County, there are five teams lumped together in the standings behind a 10-1 East Hall team. Lumpkin, Dawson, Union, North Hall and GAC all are in the race, but only three out of that group will make state.

Rabun County

0-15 (0-5 Region 8-AA)

The Lady Wildcats have yet to win a game this season, and sit in seventh place (last) in 8-AA.

Stephens County

14-4 (6-2 Region 7-AAAA)

Emma Whitfield and the Lady Indians are ranked #6 in the state in 4A softball, and are second place in Region 7-AAAA, behind Jefferson. Stephens County has won three straight, including most recently 8-0 over St. Pius.

Towns County

9-9 (7-4 Region 8-A)

Towns County is having a solid season, and sit fourth in Region 8-A. In their last six games, the Lady Indians have gone 4-2.

Union County

9-14 (5-5 Region 7-AAA)

The Lady Panthers are among that tight group in 7-AAA battling for a spot, as they currently stand in third in the standings. Union has won three of its last four games.

White County

8-8 (3-4 Region 8-AAAA)

The Lady Warriors and Jessica Morgan are coming off a critical 7-3 win over Blessed Trinity, as they stand in fourth place in the 8-AAAA standings. White County should make state once again, and could wind up making a good run once there.
