The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of North and Central Georgia until 7 p.m. Friday. The Watch area includes the following counties:
BANKS CATOOSA CHATTOOGA DAWSON ELBERT FANNIN FRANKLIN GILMER GORDON HABERSHAM HALL HART JACKSON LUMPKIN MADISON MURRAY PICKENS RABUN STEPHENS TOWNS UNION WALKER WHITE WHITFIELD
For areas of Northeast Georgia outside the Watch area, scattered thunderstorms with isolated severe storms are possible through this evening. The primary threats from these storms will be damaging wind gusts, hail, periods of heavy rain, and lightning.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for areas generally south of a line from Rome in northwest Georgia to Gainesville and Commerce in Northeast Georgia. Heat indices of 105 to 110 degrees are expected.
Temperatures and dew points will decrease slightly this weekend as a weak cold front pushes into the area, but will likely rebound to Heat Advisory criteria by the middle of next week with widespread highs in the triple digits.
