
Samuel Richard Sosebee, age 93 of Toccoa passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Born August 29, 1932, in Toccoa, Georgia, he was the son of the late John S. Sosebee and Birdie Mae Farmer Sosebee.
Sam was a graduate of Toccoa High School and attended Piedmont College and the University of Georgia. He began work at an early age in his family’s restaurant, Dixie Lunch, in downtown Toccoa. He worked there as owner/operator until the late 70’s. Sam was also the Manager of the Unicoi State Park restaurant until he retired. He served as a Stephens County Commissioner during the mid-1990s and was a dedicated public servant to the citizens of Stephens County during his term in office. He was a member of the Toccoa Elks Lodge for 53 years. Sam never met a stranger and enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed talking politics, especially at Bethel’s Barber Shop with all of his friends back in the day. One never had to guess at how he felt about a particular subject. He was an avid trout fisherman, outdoorsman, loved to travel, and he knew how to bring a smile to everyone that was around him. He loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, was a dedicated Christian, and a member of Old Toccoa Baptist Church.
Family members include his wife, Andrea Sosebee; son, Bud Sosebee and wife, Traci; grandchildren, Julia Sosebee and John Sosebee; niece Susan Turner and husband, Bill; nephew, Buster Smith and wife, Vicki.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Sosebee; brother, Jack Sosebee; three sisters, Ruth Tucker, Christine Byrd, and Joyce Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Saturday, October 25th, at Old Toccoa Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Elrod officiating.
