Members of the public got the chance to learn more about the county’s agreement to sell Habersham Medical Center to Northeast Georgia Health System.
A Public Information Forum was held on November 18, 2019, at Habersham Medical Center in Demorest.
Officials explained the Definitive Agreement that was reached back in September and answered questions. The forum was a statutory requirement, according to county manager Phil Sutton.
The five-year plan calls for NGHS to invest $3 million annually to help HMC fund capital projects to enhance and expand services. During that five-year period, any dollars HMC generates beyond 20 days of cash-on-hand to support operations would be transferred to a fund. At the end of the agreement term, the Hospital Authority of Habersham County will apply the fund balance to the hospital’s bond debt and NGHS will have the option to purchase the hospital at no additional cost.
