Pools at ‘The Ruby’ to temporarily close

The Habersham County Recreation Department will temporarily close the Natatorium at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville to install a new climate control system.

The pool area will be closed from August 24 to September 20 for the demolition and installation of the HVAC replacement unit. All other facilities at the recreation department, commonly referred to as ‘The Ruby,’ will remain open from 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The ventilation and dehumidification system being replaced is a project that was approved by the commission on March 16.

“The construction of this custom unit being installed at Ruby C. Fulbright takes a considerable amount of time to build and, unfortunately, was unable to be completed during our Covid-19 closures,” explains county recreation department director Kurt Cooper.

The new climate control system is designed to properly control space temperature, moisture, and humidity levels.

The Natatorium houses two indoor heated pools, including one 8-lane lap pool and a recreation pool.
