The Piedmont men’s soccer team was selected fifth in the CCS Preseason Coaches Poll announced Monday.
The Lions are coming off a run to the CCS Semifinals after a quarterfinals victory over Berea in 2022. Piedmont totaled two conference victories in 2022 and capped off the year with a 3-1 win in the quarterfinals at home.
Covenant was picked as the preseason favorites in the league, edging out LaGrange by a single point in the vote. The Scots were the inaugural CCS champions defeating top-seeded LaGrange in the championship 2-1.
Maryville claimed the third spot in the listing, while Belhaven took fourth. Piedmont claimed 16 points in the vote, with Berea (8) taking sixth and Huntingdon (7) coming in at seventh.
The Lions will begin the season at home with a battle against Warren Wilson on Friday, September 1 at 6 p.m.
The 2023 CCS men’s soccer conference play officially begins on Saturday, Sept. 23.
The 2023 CCS Men’s Soccer Championship opens on Saturday, October 28, and is capped by the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 4, hosted by the highest-seeded team.
