Baldwin Police are investigating a midnight break-in at the Fieldale Family Health Center (Walgreen’s) Pharmacy in Baldwin.
Baldwin Police Chief Chad Nichols says officers responded to a burglar alarm at the pharmacy located at 184 Professional Drive around 12:51 a.m. Sunday. He says when the alarm sounded the company’s remote security monitoring system pulled up the video and a representative gave 911 dispatchers a play-by-play account as the burglary unfolded. The security monitor described the suspect’s clothing and told 911 it appeared he was looking for controlled substances.
Nichols says the burglar is seen on the pharmacy’s video surveillance camera shoving drugs into a basket. He says officers arrived within two minutes but the suspect had already fled on foot. Nichols says it appears he acted alone, “That was the only person seen in the video.”
Officers from the Cornelia Police Department and a Habersham County K-9 unit were called in to assist in the search for the suspect. “The K-9 unit tracked him to a vacant construction lot near the pharmacy but he was already gone,” Nichols says. Officers did recover some pill bottles that were dropped by the suspect. Chief Nichols says the man got away with a large amount of narcotics.
The suspect is described as a white male, wearing white gloves, a black coat, black pants, a white cap and paisley bandana over his face. Nichols advises the public to be on the lookout, “If anyone learns of anyone trying to get rid of large amounts of narcotics please contact us.”
