At midnight on Monday, a pedestrian walking along US-129/Jefferson Road near Oak Grove Road was struck and killed.
Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s initial investigation identified the pedestrian as John Joseph Walling, age 32 of Winder, GA. Walling was walking in the southbound travel lane on Jefferson Road when he was struck by a 2013 Honda Civic.
ACCPD says Walling died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, and that two occupants of the Honda Civic involved sustained minor injuries.
This is the 19th fatal motor vehicle crash this year in Athens-Clarke County. The crash investigation is ongoing.
