Rick Wood to join Clarkesville City Council

Rick Wood (NGN)

Farmer and general contractor Rick Wood will soon be sworn in as Clarkesville’s newest council member.

Wood was the only person who qualified to seek the open Post 5 city council seat. No one else submitted paperwork during the write-in period prescribed by law, which ended at noon Friday, Feb. 10.

Wood will be sworn into office at the April 3 Clarkesville City Council meeting, according to city clerk Julie Poole.

A lifelong resident, Wood says he’s eager to get to work on the council.

“I just want to be a part of planning for the future of Clarkesville,” he tells Now Habersham. “I think everybody’s done a wonderful job, but I just want to be a part of it and help out.”

The Post 5 city council seat has been vacant since October, when Brendon Ansley resigned. The seat was previously held by Steven Ward, who died in December 2021. Wood will serve out the remainder of Ward’s term through December 31, 2025.
