North Hab to host 6th grade orientation July 30th

Making the move from elementary to middle school is a monumental change. That’s why North Habersham Middle School is hosting a school orientation to prepare students and parents for the transition.

North Habersham’s inaugural Bobcat University is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 8 a.m. until noon.

Bobcat U “curriculum”

Assistant Principal Tracy Allison says, “By hosting Bobcat University, we hope to provide students with fun activities and give parents important information about different aspects of our school.” Topics will include: discipline, volunteer opportunities, academic schedules, bus routes, lockers, extra-curricular opportunities, and more.

Allison says students will participate in “fun, exciting team building student sessions” led by sixth grade teachers. Informative parent sessions will be led by administrators, the school counselor, academic coach, and a representative from the transportation department.

Starting the year off right

Meeting and making new friends is another important part of Bobcat U. Students from four different Habersham County elementary schools will combine to make up the 6th grade class. Orientation at NHMS will give them a chance to meet before the school year begins on August 5th.

The same holds true for the adults.

“The faculty and staff of NHMS feel it is important to provide opportunities to build positive relationships with parents and guardians,” says Allison, “and we wanted to try a new approach to starting the year off right.”Bobcat U Flyer-3
