A Franklin County man is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after allegedly killing a puppy at an acquaintance’s home in Mt. Airy. 22-year-old Ryan Drake Moore of Canon was arrested Friday.
Habersham County Animal Control was called to the residence at 140 Dewberry Lane around 4 p.m. Friday in reference to an animal cruelty incident. When officers arrived they found a 4-month old puppy dead behind the house, according to Animal Control director Madi Nix.
Nix describes the puppy as a “Pit Bull type canine”. She says a licensed veterinarian conducted a necropsy and found that the puppy had extensive internal injuries which resulted in its death.
“We believe the cause of death to be the result of physical abuse,” Nix says.
Habersham County Animal Control obtained a warrant for Moore’s arrest. The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office transported him to jail.
Moore is charged with a felony. If convicted he could receive up to five years in jail and a $15,000 fine.
