Lady Lions use strong fourth quarter to rally past Sewanee 74-70

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont women’s basketball team scored four points in the final minute to rally past Sewanee and deliver 74-70 season-opening win in LaGrange, Georgia.

On the first day of the CCS/SAA Classic, the Lions got the better of the Tigers with a 28-19 fourth quarter rally.

Ashley Scott led Piedmont with 17 points while freshman Alexandria Willis added 15.

The Lions jumped out to an early advantage, leading 18-13 after the first quarter.

However, the Tigers responded by scoring 20 points in the second quarter as Piedmont took a 36-33 lead to the locker room.

Sewanee kept up the momentum, scoring 20 points again in the third while holding the Lions to just 10 to lead by seven going to the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was back-and-forth with multiple lead changes throughout. After Sewanee led 70-68 in the final minutes, the Lions finished the game with a 6-0 run to grab the victory.

Up next, the Lions will finish up in LaGrange, taking on Berry tomorrow at 1 p.m.
