The Banks County Sheriff’s Office wrapped up its Junior Deputy Camp this week, giving local 5th graders a hands-on look at law enforcement.

Day one kicked off with lessons in fingerprinting and presentations from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Campers learned what each agency does and how they work to keep communities safe.

On day two, recruits explored the role of the Georgia State Patrol. They practiced safe search techniques, traffic stops, using handcuffs, and learned how drones assist in the field.

Midweek, the campers experienced a live K-9 demonstration and toured the dispatch center, detention center, and courthouse. Sheriff Speed also joined the group for a Q&A session.

The final day was all about teamwork and fun. Campers practiced room-clearing techniques and wrapped up the week with a water day to celebrate.

The Sheriff’s Office shared their pride in the campers, calling them “an awesome group” as they head into 6th grade.
