It’s Atlanta Braves Day in Georgia

It’s Atlanta Braves Day in Georgia! The World Series Champion Braves will celebrate their title with fans today. Around one million people are expected to pack into Atlanta and Cobb County for the team’s two-part victory parade celebrating their first World Series title in 26 years.

Friday’s procession will start at Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta, not far from the Braves’ former homes at Turner Field and the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The parade will wind along the city’s most famous thoroughfare, Peachtree Street before the Braves are escorted to their current home in suburban Cobb County to resume the parade.

Here is the schedule of events listed on the Atlanta Braves website:

12 p.m. – Parade begins at the corner of Marietta Street NW and Peachtree Street, and continues up Peachtree to 10th Street
2 p.m. – Parade resumes at Cobb Parkway and Riverwood Parkway
3 p.m. – Parade ends at Battery Avenue
3:30 p.m. – Truist Park Ceremony begins*
4:30 p.m. – Ludacris/Big Boi concert begins*
6 p.m. – Event concludes
*A ticket is required to attend the ceremony and concert inside Truist Park.

If you’re traveling into the metro-Atlanta area Friday, be aware that major roads and interstate exit ramps along the parade route will be closed for much of the afternoon. City officials warn of anticipated gridlock and MARTA bus and rail services are expected to be heavily impacted, as well.

At least eight school districts in the state have canceled classes on Friday so students will have a chance to watch the parade in person.
