Help needed to ease overcrowding at Habersham Animal Shelter

Severe overcrowding at the Habersham County Animal Shelter has Animal Care and Control reaching out to the public for help to save as many of the animals as possible.

The shelter is in desperate need of foster homes for dogs who are awaiting transport to a No Kill Rescue shelter. Foster families are needed through the end of August.

Also, the cat population at the shelter has exploded in recent months and ACC Director Madi Hawkins says adoptive families are needed to keep the euthanasia rates low. “In five years we have come from an 85% to 4% euthanasia rate. That is unheard of,” she says, “but we need help if we want to stay that way.”

Right now cat adoption fees are half off or buy one get one free! The cost includes spaying/neutering, rabies vaccination, FeLV combo test, deworming, age appropriate FVRCP vaccinations, 30 days of pet insurance, microchip and registration.
