Habersham’s Curry wins Fan Vote Player of the Week, teammate Luttrell & Rabun’s Stockton BLITZ picks

A trio of locals were named BLITZ Player of the Week after outstanding showings in Week 1 action. For two, it marks the first BLITZ Player of the Weeks in their respective careers.

Habersham senior wideout Donovan Curry earned his via the Fan Vote, collecting right at 5,000 votes in 24 hours. He won one Player of the Week award last season. BLITZ Player of the Week co-honorees include Rabun County freshman Gunner Stockton and Habersham Central senior Tre’ Luttrell.

DONOVAN CURRY
Habersham County

Donovan Curry put on a showcase on Friday with 170 receiving yards on seven catches. That’s 24.3 yards per reception. He had one touchdown, a 68-yarder to tie the game in the first quarter at 7-7 as the Raiders wet on to win 42-35 over Madison County.

For Curry, he now has nine catches for 193 yards and a TD after two games. The standout receiver also had two tackles in the win, bringing his two-game total to four. Last year, Curry put up a stat line of 27 receptions, 598 yards and 8 TD.

Curry’s 170 yards is the 10th most in a single game in school history, and he also holds the second highest single-game mark with 201 last season against Chestatee. His 9 career touchdowns receiving are tied for fourth in a career in school history, while his 8 last season were the third most in a single-season.

GUNNER STOCKTON
Rabun County

Gunner Stockton becomes the first freshman football player to win a Player of the Week award since 2009, when White County’s QB, Cole Seagraves won the honors. Stockton led the Wildcats to a 52-42 win at North Murray, completing 23-of-30 passes (77%) for 267 yards with four touchdowns. He added 40 rushing yards to finish with over 300 all-purpose yards.

Stockton, one of the nation’s top QB recruits for the Class of 2022, through two games has put up eerily similar numbers to Deshaun Watson in his first two games as a freshman at Gainesville.

TRE’ LUTTRELL
Habersham County

Habersham senior quarterback Tre’ Luttrell led the Raiders to a thrilling win over Madison County on the road. He threw for 272 yards on 14-for-25 passing (56%) including four touchdowns. Luttrell, an all-state preseason selection also had 62 rushing yards.

Through his first two games of the 2018 campaign, Luttrell has 477 passing yards and 6 TD with no interceptions. He also has 134 rushing yards (8.4 yards per tote) and a TD.
