This is the last week on the job for several top administrators at Habersham Medical Center. The Hospital Authority of Habersham County voted in a called meeting Monday to let them go in a continued effort to trim costs ahead of a scheduled takeover of the hospital by Northeast Georgia Health System on July 1.

The Authority is releasing four top executives, including HMC President and CEO Tyler Williams; COO and Vice President of Operations Angie Harpold; Vice President of Culture and Wellness and HMC Foundation Executive Kesha Clinkscale; and HMC’s Director of Finance Susan McCrary. Their last day on the job is Friday, April 28.

“We thank Tyler, Angie, Kesha, and Susan for their service to our community, especially in light of the recent pandemic on top of difficult financial circumstances they inherited,” said Habersham County Hospital Authority Chair Dolly Ritchie. “This was a difficult decision for us to make on a personal level, but it is the duty of our board to be the best stewards of HMC’s finances.”

In light of the Authority’s decision, Northeast Georgia Health System’s Vice President of Facilities & Support Services, Kevin Matson, has agreed to serve as Interim Administrator for HMC effective May 1. He will have primary oversight of all day-to-day operations and will spend most of his time in Habersham County, according to a news release issued by the hospital authority.

“We’re pleased to continue supporting HMC through our managed services agreement until the hospital officially welcomes HMC to the NHGS family on July 1,” said Matson. “I look forward to meeting with the staff and helping them continue providing high-quality care every day, as well as encouraging the community to trust us with their care now and in the future.”
