Habersham County is inviting residents to step into public service, announcing new openings on several local boards, commissions and authorities. The county has launched an online application system designed to make the process easier and more accessible for anyone interested in serving the community.

County officials said qualified residents are encouraged to apply for the volunteer positions, which influence decisions on planning, recreation, natural resources, economic development, mental health services and more. Applications for several boards are due Dec. 12, while others are open until Jan. 16.

Positions with applications due Dec. 12 include:

DBHDD Region 1 Advisory Council (1 seat): Supports planning for mental health, developmental disabilities and addiction services. The council meets bimonthly via virtual conference.

Planning Commission (3 seats): Reviews subdivision plans and zoning requests and advises the Board of Commissioners on land-use issues. Meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Courthouse Jury Assembly Room.

Recreation Board (3 seats): Advises on recreation programs and facilities and recommends improvements. Meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.

Chestatee-Chattahoochee RC&D Council (2 seats): Works on natural resource conservation and regional development across 13 Northeast Georgia counties. Meets as scheduled around the region.

Board of Tax Assessors (2 seats): Ensures property is fairly assessed and meets with taxpayers regarding exemptions and assessments. Meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Administrative Building.

Applications due Jan. 16 include:

Library Board (1 seat): Oversees library services and ensures access to educational and cultural resources. Meets quarterly at alternating library locations.

Development Authority (1 seat): Promotes economic development, business investment and job creation. Meets the second Thursday of each month at the Administrative Building.

County officials said the new online application system streamlines the process and eliminates paperwork, allowing residents to apply from any device.
