Grace-Calvary hires youth director

Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville announces the hiring of J.M. Kidd of Sautee-Nacoochee as its new youth director effective March 1. Kidd will plan Wednesday night programs and work with adult volunteers to lead them, provide leadership for Sunday morning Christian education, plan and execute outreach events, coordinate communication with youth and parents, plan trips for recreation and community building, as well as missions.

“Grace-Calvary values our ministry to youth. Soon after I arrived two years ago I started looking for the right person for this position,” Fr. Sam Buice said. “We have a great team of volunteers and I really enjoy working with the youth myself. Adding this position will give us added organization and a person who can contribute significantly more time to this ministry. That takes the right kind of person, though, and I found him.”

Kidd will devote 15 hours per week to the position. He is a nursing student at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. He has been a participant and leader in Diocesan programs at Camp Mikell and beyond and is skilled at social media and publication. He has been a leader in a Leadership Training program that stresses careful listening and “walking with” those you lead.

“I have participated in Episcopal Youth Community programs throughout my life so I know how impactful a young group be to a teenager,” Kidd said. “I am very excited to be leading an Episcopal youth group where I can help bring teens closer to God, provide leadership and social skills and have some fun along the way.”
