Gov.-elect Kemp names Rogers floor leader

Representative Terry Rogers represents the citizens of District 10, which includes portions of Habersham and White counties.

Gov.-elect Brian Kemp has named Rep. Terry Rogers of Clarkesville as one of his legislative floor leaders.

Rep. Rogers served the past four years as floor leader for Gov. Nathan Deal. That experience is one of the reasons Kemp picked him. Rogers says he’s honored and excited to continue in the job.

“Governor-elect Kemp has an aggressive agenda which lays forth a number of great things and I’m pleased I’m going to be a part of carrying that legislation,” Rogers tells Now Habersham.

Rep. Rogers expects the new governor will focus on building relationships with lawmakers during the upcoming session. He does not expect any major policy shifts.

“Based on conversations with legislative leaders as well as the governor-elect, I think you’ll be seeing concentration on again having a good balanced budget, economic development and school safety,” says Rogers. “In addition, rural Georgia will once again be a big winner as we explore new options in health care, broadband, and workforce development.”

Cutting regulations and maintaining Georgia’s “business friendly climate” will also be a priority for lawmakers, Rogers says. Site Selection magazine has ranked Georgia’s business climate as the best in the nation for six years running.

Kemps’ transition office announced his 2019 legislative floor leaders in a news release. In addition to Rogers, Republican state Reps. Jodi Lott of Evans, Bert Reeves of Marietta and Dominic LaRiccia of Douglas will sponsor bills to carry out the new GOP governor’s agenda in the House. In the state Senate, Kemp’s floor leaders will be Republican Sens. Blake Tillery of Vidalia and Brian Strickland of McDonough.

The legislative session begins January 14.
