Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites had 14.3 million visitors last year which made finding an available campsite difficult for some Georgia residents. Director Angie Johnson and State Representative Marcus Wiedower worked together to create a solution to the problem.
Beginning April 15, Georgia residents will be able to book accommodations 14 months in advance at sites operated by Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. This gives Georgia Residents a one month advantage over out-of-state visitors. This includes newly renovated full hookup campsites at Vogel, historic CCC cottages at F.D. Roosevelt and yurts at Cloudland Canyon.
“This is a thank you to the residents of Georgia for supporting our local state parks and the staff that work there,” said Director Johnson.

Cottages, campsites, and more
Some Georgia State Parks have been in operation for nearly 100 years. You can choose from Campsites, Cottages & Cabins, Yurts & Unique Accommodations – Suwanneed River Eco-Lodge.
There are opportunities for accommodation discounts such as Seniors, 62 and older, receive a 20% discount on cottage rates (Sunday – Thursday, December 1 – March 31st) with a limit of one cottage per stay. A 20% discount on campsite rates (year-round): not valid for group camping. Discount applies only when the vehicle is registered to a senior with a limit of one campsite per senior. And, a 20% discount on yurt rates (year-round).
A 25% discount is given on individual accommodations, recreation fees such as mini-golf and boat rental, golf fees, and historic site admission for disabled veterans who are Georgia residents and present a Certificate of Eligibility card. The full fee is charged to the credit card when making an online reservation. At check-in and presenting the Certificate of Eligibility card, the discount is applied.

It is important to note that a ParkPass is required for all vehicles. ParkPasses are not included in reservations fees and may be purchased at the Visitor Center at check-in. Overnight guests pay only one night parking fee for the duration of their stay. To buy an Annual ParkPass, visit any Georgia State Park office or buy a ParkPass online (please allow 7–10 business days for shipping). When purchasing a ParkPass there are several options available.
1–12 passenger vehicles: $5 per day or $50 annual ParkPass
13–30 passenger vehicles: $30 per day or $75 annual ParkPass
31 or more passenger vehicles: $70 per day or $250 annual ParkPass
Georgia active duty military/veterans: $3.75 per day or $37.50 annual ParkPass
Georgia State Parks, a division of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), ensures local citizens have early access to schedule those important gatherings.
“Many Georgians have visited the same state parks with their families for generations,” said DNR Commissioner Walter Rabon. “We want to provide a better opportunity for them to be able to schedule their family reunions and other park adventures.”
