GBI searches for suspect in Winder man’s death

WINDER — Investigators are asking for the public’s help to locate a suspect in the recent death of a Winder man. Miguel Martinez, age 54, also of Winder, is wanted in connection to the death of 69-year-old David Wolfe.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Martinez is wanted for felony murder, aggravated assault, and theft by taking a motor vehicle. The Winder Police Department asked the GBI to investigate Wolfe’s death on May 7.

Preliminary information indicates that a landlord entered a property on East Broad Street in Winder to do a welfare check and discovered Wolfe, who was a tenant, dead inside the home.

“Officers responded to the residence and determined that Wolfe and his roommate, Martinez, had not been seen in several days, and Wolfe’s vehicle was missing,” the GBI says. “The missing vehicle was found in another part of the county, but Martinez has not been located.”

Wolfe’s body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing.
