HOMER, Ga. — A Franklin County man convicted of rape late last month has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. 31-year old Dennis Garren Orr will not be eligible for parole until 2050.
Chief Judge William Oliver handed down the sentence on November 12, weeks after a superior court jury convicted Orr of the January 2023 crime. After serving his prison term, Orr will remain on probation for life, according to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
A jury convicted Orr on October 30 after hearing testimony from the victim, three other sexual assault victims of Orr’s, law enforcement officers, and additional witnesses. Orr took the stand in his own defense during the trial. He faced the possibility of life in prison.
District Attorney George Christian said Orr will also be required to register as a sex offender upon release from prison and comply with all statutory sex-offender conditions.
