Fire Destroys Century Old Home

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a weekend fire that destroyed a century old home just outside of Clarkesville.

The 110-year old structure went up in flames early Sunday. Traffic was detoured along Highway 197 North between Alec Mountain and Gastley Roads for several hours as firefighters fought to contain the blaze.

A state fire investigator was on the scene Monday assessing the damage, trying to determine the cause. State Insurance Commissioner spokesman Glenn Allen identified the homeowner as Jean Miller. He says the 3,000 square foot structure was a total loss.

He says the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

This house, owned by Jean Miller, was gutted by fire in the early morning hours of February 28, 2016.
