No injuries were reported in a junkyard fire that broke out late last week in Commerce, according to the Commerce Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to reports of the fire near Seymour’s Garage on Ila Road just before 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. Upon arrival, crews discovered several vehicles engulfed in flames at a nearby junkyard.
Strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly to nearby wooded areas.
Additional support was requested and Nicholson and Maysville fire departments as well as Jackson County EMS all responded to the scene.
Mutual aid from Madison County Fire also joined the effort to help contain the blaze, which was quickly brought under control and fully extinguished.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
