SAUTEE NACOOCHEE – The annual Fiber Arts Festival in the Valley at the Sautee Nacoochee Community Center will be held this year on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.
In addition to hosting vendors with an amazing array of wares for sale and techniques to share, there will be workshops for those who want some hands-on experience working in one of the many facets of the fiber arts. These classes and workshops will be offered on Friday, May 13th full-day or half-day. Registration for these classes is now open.
Here is what participants can look forward to:
-
Abstract Collage taught by Alice Berg. Students will utilize paints, threads, fabrics, inks, brushes and papers to create a whimsical one-of-a-kind piece by machine sewing these different elements together.
-
Holly Williams will teach the technique of needle felting and students in her class will create an adorable “possum” buddy to add to their home decor.
- Bev Mannes will instruct students on how to create 3-dimensional flowers from fabric. This class requires students to have some knowledge of hand sewing. Mannes says,“We will be creating a lovely spring garden or bouquet. It may become addictive.”
-
Learn how to create your own art quilt with instructor Barbara Mitchell. Mitchell says that students in this class will interpret their favorite spot in nature and turn it into a lovely fabric representation.
-
Silke Cliatt will once again guide students in creating their own fiber flower collages. Rumor has it that this class is not only informative but past students have deemed it a whole lot of fun.
- Felting is one of the more beloved fiber arts and Becky Walker will instruct students in making a wet felted square that can serve as a trivet.
-
And finally, learn the lost art of needle tatting with local tatter, Cindy Grace. Tatting is the technique of tying knots over thread to create lacy patterns and motifs. Tatting has long been used to embellish clothing as well as collages and greeting cards.
Classes vary on supply fees and instruction costs. In some classes, students may be required to supply some of their own equipment.
Cost details for each class and the registration form are available at the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association website at SNCA.org.
Classes have a set number of students and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
