Funeral services for Eugene Maxwell, age 79, of Mt. Airy, will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Hillside Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow the service in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 6-8 PM.
Mr. Maxwell passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at his residence.
Born in White County on February 9, 1942, Mr. Maxwell was the son of the late Tatum and Wilma Ayers Maxwell. Mr. Maxwell was a born-again Christian, and he was retired from Fieldale Farms with 50 years of loyal service. Mr. Maxwell was also in the logging business with his father and was also known to provide firewood for people in need to help them stay warm through the winter.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Maxwell is preceded in death by his wife Emma Jean Moore Maxwell, daughter Sally Maxwell, son in law Alex Marvin Brown, brothers T.L. Maxwell and Edwin Maxwell, sister Margaret Maxwell Seymore, nephews Curtis Arrowood and Brian Seymore, and brothers in law Richard Wade and Hurbert Durham.
Survivors include daughter Mary Ann Maxwell Brown of Mt. Airy and Dophine Brown of Banks County, son Edgar Luiz Lopez of Cornelia, brother Jerry Maxwell of Mt. Airy, sisters Ann Arrowood of Clarkesville, Jewel Watts of Mt. Airy, Viola Wade of Demorest, Sybil Durham of Baldwin and Frances Hill of Baldwin as well as 7 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family.
