Elizabeth Reeves Kimzey, age 105, of Athens, Georgia, formerly of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
Mrs. Kimzey was born on October 12, 1913, in Canton, Georgia, to the late Frank and Hester Ayers Reeves. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. Kimzey; five brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Kimzey retired from First National Bank as Vice President with 55 years of service. After retiring from the bank, she was employed with Habersham Hardware for 15 years. She was a charter member of Women in Banking, the Business Historical Society, and the Professional Women’s Association. Mrs. Kimzey was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 75 years, the Daughters of 1812, and the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce. She was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Cornelia where she was a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class, as well as WMU and the Benfield Group.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dr. Ed Dempsey of Athens; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Doris Reeves of Cornelia; grandchildren: Jed Dempsey, Betsy Daniel and husband, David, and Ginny Dempsey; great-grandchildren: Dempsey, Kimzey, and Haleigh Daniel and Anna Grace Dempsey; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia, with Dr. Eric Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, the day of the service, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia.
