Dawg Days: SEC announces updated 2020 schedule

The #4 Dawgs will open the season on the road as they face the unranked University of Arkansas Razorbacks at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Georgia v Florida game will be held In Jacksonville on Nov. 7

The Southeastern Conference, on Monday, Aug. 17, announced the new football schedules for all 14 SEC schools for the 2020 season. Last month, the SEC established September 26 as the new kickoff for its 2020 football season to allow its universities to focus on the healthy return of their campus communities and the gradual re-introduction of athletics, as the 14 members of the SEC continue to monitor developments related to COVID-19.

The 2020 SEC football season is comprised of a 10-game Conference-only schedule and the SEC Football Championship Game will be played December 19 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, rescheduled from the original date of December 5. The schedule includes one mid-season open date for each school and an open date on December 12 for all schools.

Each SEC team will play 10 conference football games to include six games against division opponents and four games against non-division opponents. The season is scheduled to begin on September 26 and will culminate with the SEC Championship Game. It will be the 29th edition of the game and the 27th in the city of Atlanta.

Saturday, Sept. 26
Season opener on the road against the University of Arkansas Razorbacks at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark. According to the Bulldogs stat archives, the last time the Dawgs played the Razorbacks was on Oct. 18, 2014, when the Dawgs trounced the Razorbacks in a 45-32 win. The Dawgs have won 10 out of the last 14 games against the Razorbacks. New Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman served on Kirby Smart’s staff each of the last four seasons after coaching the Razorbacks’ offensive line for three seasons from 2013-15

Saturday, Oct. 3
The Dawgs come home to Sanford Stadium to face the #11 Auburn Tigers. Their last matchup was on Nov. 16, 2019, when the Dawgs beat the Tigers 21-14 in the SEC Eastern Division championship. Auburn has proven a competitive opponent – the Dawgs have claimed 60 wins, while yielding 56 losses and 8 ties.

Saturday, Oct. 10
Retaining home field advantage, the Dawgs will face the unranked University of Tennessee Volunteers. Their last matchup was a 43-14 come-from-behind win for the Dawgs on Oct. 5, 2019.

Saturday, Oct. 17
Back on the road, the Dawgs will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face the #3-ranked Crimson Tide. Georgia’s last matchup with Alabama was a tough 28-35 loss against the then-ranked #1 Tide in the 2018 SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Bulldogs have long struggled with this foe, recording 25 wins and 40 losses, with 4 ties.

Saturday, Oct. 24
The Bulldogs will take on the unranked Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington. Their last matchup was a 21-0 shut-out on Oct. 19, 2019. The Dawgs have put in 59 wins against the Wildcats, with 12 losses and 2 ties.

Saturday, Nov. 7
The iconic Georgia v Florida game in Jacksonville will give the Dawgs a chance to repeat last Nov. 2nd’s 24-17 win over the neighboring rival, the #8 Florida Gators, when Georgia finished the game 12-of-18 on third-down conversions, including a 22-yard reception on a 3rd-and-7 from tight end Eli Wolf in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs outgained the Gators, 398 to 278, on the day. The Bulldogs have walked away victorious in 53 matchups, with 43 losses and two ties.

Saturday, Nov. 14
The Bulldogs head to Columbia, Mo. to face the Tigers, whom they last saw in a 27-0 victory at home on Nov. 9, 2019, when graduate placekicker Rodrigo Blankenship matched his career best with four made field goals. The Bulldogs’ defense held Missouri to just 198 total yards, senior Tae Crowder recorded seven tackles and junior Monty Rice nailed down six. The Dawgs have recorded eight wins and one loss against the Tigers.

Saturday, Nov. 21
It will be a Dog eat Dog battle as the Georgia Bulldogs face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a home game. The Dawgs have taken 18 out of 24 games against the MSU Bulldogs, including their last matchup on Sept. 23, 2017, when Georgia scored 31 points against a single field goal by the MSU team.

Saturday, Nov. 28
The Dawgs travel to Columbia, SC to face the Gamecocks. The Dawgs lost the last battle against SC with a 20-17 loss on Oct. 12, 2019. Georgia has a 51 win, 19 loss, 2 tie record against the Gamecocks.

Saturday, Dec. 5
The Bulldogs end the regular season at home in a battle against Vanderbilt, who they last saw on Aug. 31, 2019, when the Dawgs recorded a 30-6 win against the Commodores. Georgia has a record of 58 wins against Vanderbilt’s 20, with 2 ties.
