Cornelia Police say robbery appears to be the motive for a shooting at a residence late last night that injured one person.
The department says units responded to a 911 call about a shooting at 837 North Main Street at 11:08 p.m. Thursday.
“Once officers arrived, they found one victim had been shot in the torso. The victim was quickly transported via ambulance to Northeast Georgia Hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot,” says Cornelia Police Lt. Kevin Marstellar in a press release.
The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Baldwin, Demorest, and Alto Police Departments assisted in the search for suspects. Marstellar says the preliminary investigation points to robbery as the motive for the shooting.
“We believe we’re only looking for one suspect,” he says, “but we are not ruling out any accomplices at this time.” Officials do not have an accurate description of the suspect at this time and no arrests have been made. “We are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation and will release more information as it becomes available,” the lieutenant says.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Cornelia Police Department at 706-778-4314 and speak with Lt. Pontes.
