The Cleveland City Council this week awarded a design-build service contract to Ron Cantrell Construction, Inc. of Cleveland. The firm will oversee city construction projects including a new fire department building and other facilities that the council decides to undertake.
At the May 13 Cleveland City Council meeting, City Administrator Kevin Harris detailed the bidding and selection process for this project. Harris told the council that the city received five bids in total.
The council also approved a one-year work detail agreement with the Georgia Department of Corrections for trustee inmate labor for various maintenance projects in the city. The city will pay GDC $49,318. Harris said it’s “one of the best contracts and deals we get.”
“The value added can not be calculated for this contract we received,” he said. “The amount of work we get, the amount of effort we get, the amount of cleanup, the amount of things they do, I don’t think we could put a figure to that,” he said.
The council also approved disposing of 19 surplus vehicles housed at the city shop facility.
The city intends to sell, trade, or auction off the vehicles, including a tractor and a Mitsubishi Minicab Mini Truck, that are no longer valuable to the city.
