Chipley Hugh “Chip” Johnson, age 59 of Clarkesville, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 9, 1958, he was the son of Hugh L. Johnson of Clarkesville and the late Barbara Wales Hunter Johnson. Mr. Johnson graduated from Habersham Central High School in 1976 and Southern Polytechnic University with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1981. He was the owner of Johnson Railway Service founded in 1975, Chattahoochee Locomotive Company founded in 1978 and Pickens Railway Company founded in 1996. Mr. Johnson holds two US Patents related to locomotives. He was an active member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and The Gideons International.
In addition to his mother, Barbara Johnson, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Johnson Bisher; mother-in-law, Carolyn Lewis Hodges.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hodges Johnson of Clarkesville; son, Austin Wales Johnson of Kingsland, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelley Johnson Whisler (Greg) of Annandale, Virginia and Hunter Johnson Sims (John Thomas, Jr.) of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Alice McLaurin Sims and Hugh Pickett Sims; father-in-law, Dr. Thomas L. Hodges (Jackie) of Clarkesville.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 pm, Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Pletsch, Mr. Donald Sims, Mr. Sid Stewart and Mr. Keith Ivester officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Tony Kemp officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
