BALDWIN, Ga. — After serving six months as interim chief, Ross Jackson has been officially named fire chief for the City of Baldwin. He succeeds former chief Joe Roy, who served for nearly 30 years.

A 10-year veteran of the Baldwin Fire Department, Jackson said stepping into the permanent role is both an honor and a responsibility.

“It’s an honor for me to take on this responsibility,” Jackson said. “I feel privileged to continue our past successes and to grow into the future. The firefighters we currently have are second to none and will be the future of this service.”

Mayor Stephanie Almagno praised the decision to promote from within, calling it a reflection of the department’s strength.

“I’m delighted to be hiring from within,” Almagno said. “It demonstrates the quality of the staff we have. And I believe the city’s residents will continue to be served with the highest level of dedication and professionalism.”

Jackson will be sworn in during the Baldwin City Council meeting on Monday, October 7, at 6 p.m.

Roy and Assistant Baldwin Fire Chief Shaun Benfield both abruptly resigned from the fire department on March 26, 2025. The city did not give a reason for their departures. Jackson was named interim chief the same day.
