North Georgia residents were treated to an unexpected celestial show Tuesday night as the Aurora Borealis made an appearance across the region. The colorful lights shimmered faintly across the northern horizon, with pink, purple, and green hues captured in long-exposure photos sent to Now Habersham by excited skywatchers from Habersham, Stephens County, and beyond.

Viewers shared photos of red streaks and purple skies glowing above the hills. Others reported spotting the glow in metro Atlanta.

If you missed Tuesday’s celestial light show, you have another chance to capture some amazing photos. Now Habersham weathercaster and resident skywatcher, Tyler Penland, said another aurora display is on the way.

“Tonight’s show came from a pair of X1 flares that erupted on Monday,” he explained. “We are still awaiting the arrival of yet another CME from a powerful X5 flare on Tuesday morning.”
